Steps to Hope:

Fighting childhood cancer is like trying to maneuver across a minefield. A guide to get you across the minefield can make a big difference. Steps to Hope is that guide. Learn from the mistakes and successes of hundreds of parents fighting their child’s cancer and adults fighting cancer who have been down the path before you, and write from a sick child’s parent’s perspective with input from leading doctors, nurses, counselors, and psychologists.
It will show you a process for finding answers to the most critical questions in your child’s cancer fight. It does something else. It shows how to overcome emotional and financial challenges that prevent many families from getting the life-saving treatment for their children.
While Steps to Hope was initially written for parents battling neuroblastoma, the objective and systematic approach outlined in the guide has also proven effective for other pediatric cancers and adult cancers.
With the assistance from Congresswoman Lois Capps, a former nurse, we forwarded a copy of “Steps To Hope” to then Vice President Joe Biden. Six days later, we received an invitation to represent pediatric cancer research at the Cancer Moonshot Summit at the White House.
Reviews
“It should be distributed to every pediatrician office in the country.”
- Dr. Fernando Stein, President of the American Academy of Pediatrics
“First, I would like to say that the booklet is AMAZING. The reviews do not do justice to how much great information is included. This alone has the ability to help so many families. I hope you and your team know the impact it could make in the hands of patients and their families could be life-changing.” - Dr. Chrystal Louis, Department of Pediatrics, Hematology-Oncology, Texas Children’s Hospital/Baylor College of Medicine.
“ I wish I had this booklet when my son was first diagnosed.”- Mary H., mother of neuroblastoma patient
“Only with time did we realize the value of Steps To Hope.“ At the beginning of our child’s cancer fight we didn’t know what we needed to know. Steps to Hope showed us what we needed to know.” Michael Y., - Parent. “This is an awesome guide” Jim L., Father of pediatric cancer patient. “When our son was first diagnosed, I didn’t know enough to appreciate Steps To Hop.” It was extremely helpful.”
- Joan H., mother of pediatric cancer patient
“Five Stars!! Knowledge is the accumulation of facts while wisdom is the ability to take that knowledge and produce a desired outcome. Unfortunately, our ability to make rational, wise decisions can easily be overwhelmed. This manual is a practical, positive map to keep one on track in a highly charged, emotional situation. Many of its recommendations would work well with non-cancer diagnoses too. Great practical ideas. Recommended without hesitation.”
- Dr. Dave Javitz, M.D., Private Practitioner Internal Medicine
“I have now read through your book. I love it. It is powerful, clearly and accessibly written, and presents a wealth of actionable information in a very logical form. Many congratulations on having produced such a useful volume.”
- Philip J. Landrigan, MD, MSc, FAAP, pediatrician, Director, Program for Global Public Health and the Common Good, Director, Global Observatory on Pollution and Health Professor of Biology Schiller Institute for Integrated Science and Society, Boston College. He is considered the country’s leading expert in the connection between toxic chemicals and the health of infants and children. His early landmark research resulted in the EPA removing lead in gasoline and household paints. Also, Congress relied on him to evaluate the 9/11 site
